Can fecal incontinence be prevented?

Fecal incontinence can often be prevented. Chronic constipation is a frequent cause of fecal incontinence, but you may be able to prevent constipation by eating plenty of fiber, drinking enough water, and getting regular exercise. If you are suffering from diarrhea, you can prevent fecal incontinence by treating your diarrhea. Try not to strain when moving your bowels, since this can weaken sphincter muscles over time, leading to fecal incontinence.
