Is there screening for fallopian tube cancer?

Doctors do not routinely screen for fallopian tube cancer because it is rather rare. However, genetic variants in BRCA1 and BRCA2, two tumor suppressor genes, are associated with a higher risk of a few different gynecologic cancers. In certain cases, screening for these genes may help identify women at higher risk for these types of cancer.

If you have a personal history or family history of breast or ovarian cancer, or you have a close relative with a genetic variant in one of the BRCA genes, you may wish to ask your doctor about whether you should be tested for the genes. If you are positive for mutations in one of these genes, the doctor may suggest that you are periodically screened for irregularities that can indicate cancer. This way, you are more likely to catch any cancers early on.
