The normal recovery period after a full face and neck lift is approximately 6 weeks. The swelling and edema with settle after the first week. Drainage tubes are often placed for the first day to remove fluid and small amounts of blood under the flaps. Some surgeons place patients on solumedrol (steroid) dose packs as well. Cold compression is vital and should be maintained for the first 48 hours.
