What causes keratitis?

Keratitis can be caused by several factors. Most often the cause is some sort of bacterial, viral, or fungal infection that gets into the eye. You can also get keratitis if your eyes are too dry or if your eyes don't close all the way. Keratitis can also occur if your allergies affect your eyes, or if your eyes come into contact with lenses or other foreign objects that scratch the cornea.
