Distichiasis, one type of eyelash growth abnormality, presents symptoms that include excessive eyelash growth on both the top and bottom eyelids. There may be another whole set of lashes that do not grow on the edge of the lid, but rather on the inside of the lid. Thinly growing eyelashes are actually themselves a symptom of another disorder known as Rothmund-Thomson syndrome. Sometimes, conditions that causes eyelash growth abnormalities also cause other eye symptoms like eye irritation or watering.
