What causes ION?

  • Older age (over age 50)
  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • Arterial disease (clogged arteries)
  • Glaucoma (high intraocular pressure)
  • Migraine headaches
  • Temporal arteritis (inflammation of certain arteries, including those to the eye)
