Side effects may include headaches, nausea, breast tenderness, a blotchy skin discoloration, weight changes, depression, fluid retention, enlargement of uterine fibroids, and abnormal uterine bleeding.

Estrogen therapy has been linked to breast, ovarian, endometrial, and other cancers. It is also associated with blood clots, heart attacks, and strokes.
