If strokes run in my friend's family, should she avoid Premarin?

Before taking Premarin, your friend should talk with her doctor about her family's history of stroke and her risks of having a stroke while on Premarin. This risk of stroke is even higher is she smokes. Long-term treatment with Premarin may increase her risk of heart attack, blood clots or stroke.
