How does Premarin interact with other medications or foods?

You should tell your doctor about any medications you are currently taking because many medications can interact with Premarin. Some include blood thinners, thyroid medication, insulin, antifungals, seizure medications, barbiturates, and antidepressants. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice can also interact with Premarin, so your doctor may advise you to avoid eating grapefruit while you are taking Premarin.

You can take Premarin pills with or without food. If you’re a grapefruit lover, let your doctor know, because drinking a lot of grapefruit juice or eating the fruit often can affect dosing. You can still eat them, but you'll need to be consistent about taking your medication so levels don't go up and down. Premarin can sometimes interact with other medications. The ones that can be problematic are medicines used to treat blood clots, thyroid disease, seizures, depression and fungal infections. So be sure to tell your doctor about all the prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medicines you are taking, specifically St. John's wort, which can change how your body processes estrogen.
