Does estradiol gel interact with other medications or food?

Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with estradiol gel and increase the levels of estrogen in the body. Some sleep aids and seizure treatments may interact with estradiol gel, so ask your doctor or pharmacist. Some diabetes treatments may cause complications. St. John's Wort should not be taken while using estradiol gel. Estradiol gel may also interact with:

  • "azole" antifungal medications
  • HIV protease inhibitors
  • barbiturate drugs
  • carbamazepine
  • macrolide antibiotics
  • hydantoins
  • rifampin
  • thyroid hormones                

Talk to your doctor about all medications or supplements you are taking before starting on this drug.
