How does conjugated estrogens vaginal cream interact with medications?

Certain drugs and dietary supplements can alter the effectiveness of conjugated estrogens vaginal cream. Some will increase estrogen levels too high, while others may diminish the effectiveness of this medication. If your doctor prescribes conjugated estrogens vaginal cream, tell him or her if you are taking any of the following drugs or dietary supplements:

• phenobarbital
• carbamazepine
• rifampin
• St. Johns wort
• erythromycin
• clarithromycin
• ketoconazole
• itraconazole
• ritonavir

Finally, if you're a fan of grapefruit juice, let your doctor know. Compounds in the tart beverage could increase estrogen levels and make you more likely to experience side effects.
