The risks of taking estropipate include harming your unborn child if you are pregnant, developing certain types of cancer, and increasing your risk of breast cancer, endometrial cancer, heart attack, or stroke. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, you should not use estropipate, as it may cause birth defects in the fetus. Use birth control while you are on estropipate and let your doctor know if you become pregnant while using this drug. Use of estropipate may increase your risk for breast, womb (endometrial), ovary, and uterine cancers and can increase the risk of developing endometrial hyperplasia, which is a condition that can cause uterine cancer. Also, using estropipate for long periods of time can increase your risk for heart attack, stroke, and breast cancer.
