How effective are PDE-5 inhibitors?

Donna Hill Howes, RN
Family Practitioner

An analysis of 82 studies found that PDE-5 inhibitors were effective in 20% to 47% of men. Effectiveness was different for each drug depending on dosage, but highest dosages were not always the most effective. In general, sildenafil was the most effective and avanafil the least effective.

In two studies, tadalafil taken once daily provided treatment satisfaction comparable to PDE-5 inhibitors taken on demand.
