Can being overweight cause erectile dysfunction?

Being overweight can be associated with a decrease in penile blood flow. A 2010 study was able to show that an elevated percentage of body fat represented a predictor of vascular erectile dysfunction. While this does not mean that being overweight always causes erectile dysfunction, it can be interpreted to mean that the vascular risk factors that come with obesity, including metabolic syndrome, hypertension and insulin resistance all contribute to a physiologic state which is not consistent with optimal sexual performance.
