In how many ways does the body produce energy?

The body produces energy through two different methods, aerobic, and anaerobic. Anaerobic means without oxygen and can provide energy very quickly but only for very short durations of time typically no more than 30-40 seconds. Things like lifting heavy weights or groceries, running across the street, throwing a baseball are anaerobic energy activities.

Aerobic energy is more slowly produced but can provide a lot of energy, jogging for 5 miles or riding a bike or going for a 30 minute walk are examples of activities that aerobic in nature. To maximize health and fitness you should perform exercises that stress both system's several times a week.
