What is a transvaginal ultrasound?

A transvaginal ultrasound is one way to diagnose uterine cancer. For this exam, your doctor must insert an instrument into your vagina. This instrument produces an image of the inside of your uterus. Your doctor can inspect this image for abnormalities in the uterine lining.
