How long is dental root amputation effective?

A tooth with root amputation can last for many years. Teeth that have had a root amputation will have also have had a root canal first and will most likely require a crown. Because the tooth is missing a root, it will not have as much support as a whole tooth and is more susceptible to fracture and instability from gum disease.
