How does a radioactive iodine uptake test diagnose diffuse goiter?

During a radioactive iodine uptake test, your doctor will inject a small amount of radioactive iodine into your body. Later, he or she can measure the amount of radioactive iodine in your thyroid. This determines the level of hormones your thyroid is producing and whether or not an overactive thyroid could be caused by diffuse goiter.
