Does goiter affect women differently than men?

Anyone can develop a goiter, although some types of goiters are more common in certain groups of people. Women tend to develop goiters more frequently than men. However, the effects of a goiter on the body are the same for women as they are for men, which the exception that a woman's menstrual cycle may also be affect by an overactive or underactive thyroid.
