Side effects from the paricalcitol injection are similar to having too much vitamin D in your system. Some of the initial side effects may be:

  • headache, feeling weak or drowsy, nausea, vomiting,dry mouth,
  • constipation, muscle or bone pain, and a metallic taste in your mouth.

Other symptoms may include:  

  • weight loss, loss of appetite, inflammation of your eyes or pancreas, sensitivity to light, 
  • runny nose, itching, feeling cold, decreased sex drive, and increased cholesterol and blood pressure.

In very serious cases, psychosis and death may result. Talk to your doctor about any side effects that may be a warning side of a vitamin D overdose. Call 911 to get emergency medical help if you have symptoms of an allergic reaction, including hives, closing of your throat, swollen face or lips or tongue, and breathing problems.
