How common is pain in people who have had a stroke?

Pain is a frequent complication of stroke. In one study, 32% of stroke survivors had moderate to severe pain four months after their stroke. Sixteen months post-stroke, 21% continued to have moderate to severe pain. Persistent pain can have a negative impact on stroke recovery and quality of life.
