The cause of discoid eczema is not yet known, although there are some clues about what may cause it. The condition -- also known as nummular eczema -- produces reddish or brown, coin-shaped sores on the skin. Many people who develop discoid eczema have either a personal or a family history of allergies or asthma. The condition is also more common in dry climates, and in people who have poor circulation.
