When is open neurosurgery an option for acoustic neuroma treatment?

If an acoustic neuroma has a lot of brain stem compression or is fairly significant in size, surgical intervention is recommended. Conversely, people who have acoustic neuromas and are elderly or have significant co-morbidities wouldn't be able to undergo open surgery. In those cases, radiation may be the best option.
