Preparing for radiation or surgery to treat an acoustic neuroma is like preparing for a marathon. It is going to be very physically draining. Even though you’re asleep for surgery, nonetheless afterward your body knows it's been through a very grueling experience. Therefore, when you prepare for surgery, you should try to get your overall body, mind and spirit as healthy as you can. Eating a healthy diet that includes a good mix of proteins, calcium, fruits and vegetables is recommended. You may want to maximize your body condition so that you can heal from the experience, so you should ideally get your body into shape. If you are athletic, you should do more of whatever it is that you do. If you enjoy walking or running, do a little bit more so that you get physically in shape. You should also get your support system ready -- your family, your friends and your home.
