Plastic Surgery

Ear reconstruction is performed by either otolaryngologist or plastic surgeons. Most reconstructions are performed for congenital microtia or anotia. Congenital ear deficiency may be associated with other anomalies including Treacher-Collins syndrome and Goldenhar's syndrome. The two most common methods include the use of Silicone prosthesis or autologous rib-cartilage graft. The creation of the auricle includes the concha, helix, tragus, and the lobule. Skin grafts and or flap reconstruction over the graft are often used.
