Because perichondritis is a bacterial infection, your doctor will treat it using antibiotics. Usually, the antibiotics are given orally, but if the infection is severe, then they may be given through an IV. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the bacteria responsible for many cases of perichondritis, has a natural resistance to some antibiotics, so your doctor may need to try more than one medication before successfully defeating the infection.
