What are the treatment options for ear disorders?

Treatment of ear problems can vary by the disorder. A simple ear infection may resolve without treatment, or it may require a round of antibiotic therapy. Surgery may be needed to treat a ruptured eardrum or other structural condition. Those with hearing impairment may be helped with hearing aids. Some balance disorders may respond to medications that treat symptoms like nausea and vomiting. Physical therapy may play a role in restoring balance. Meniere's disease, a disease affecting balance, may improve with a low-sodium diet.
