How is perichondritis diagnosed?

To diagnose perichondritis, your doctor will examine the outer ear. He or she will be looking for a visible wound, such as an insect bite or piercing, surrounded by redness and swelling. They may also look inside your ear with an otoscope to rule out other conditions, such as internal ear infections.
