How common is barotrauma?

Ear barotrauma is common. It is a consequence of technology allowing humans to travel further and faster than they could on their own. Most cases of barotrauma are harmless: passing discomfort easily alleviated by yawning. Other forms of barotrauma are more rare - they tend to occur mostly during diving and usually as a consequence of bad technique or equipment.
