How common are bacterial ear infections?

Ear infections in general are extremely common among children. Research estimates that three out of four children have had an ear infection of some sort by the time they reach the age of three. Of those children, 50 percent of them will have had recurring ear infections. Usually, though, ear infections stop being so common after children hit age four, and ear infections among adults are fairly rare.
