Does perichondritis affect children differently than adults?

Perichondritis does not affect children any differently than adults. However, children are more likely to get this infection following trauma to the ear, while an increasingly common cause among adults is cartilage piercing. Antibiotic treatment is used to stop the growth of the bacteria, so permanent ear deformity does not occur.
