How can surgery treat dysmenorrhea?

Secondary dysmenorrhea - or painful menstruation - is caused by an underlying gynecological condition. If you suffer from secondary dysmenorrhea, surgery may be able to treat this underlying condition and relieve your dysmenorrhea symptoms. For example, uterine fibroids are tumors that can cause intense pain and cramping. Surgical treatment of fibroids ranges from less invasive procedures, like laparoscopy, to major operations, like a hysterectomy. These surgical procedures can all effectively treat secondary dysmenorrhea. Surgery may also be used to treat other gynecological conditions that cause secondary dysmenorrhea, including endometriosis and ovarian cysts.
