How do dry eyes affect men, women and children differently?

In general, children are not affected by dry eyes. It is a condition common to older adults, particularly those above the age of 65. If children do suffer from dry eyes, it may be caused by improperly-formed eyelids or some other structural problem with the eyes. Dry eyes are more common in women than men, particularly women who have gone through menopause or who are pregnant. Hormonal changes in post-menopausal women may affect the amount or quality of tears produced by the eyes. Birth control pills can also be a factor in causing dry eyes.
