When can I stop taking Microzide?

When and if you can stop taking Microzide (hydrochlorothiazide) depends on why it was prescribed for you. This diuretic, or water pill, helps you get rid of excess fluid and can reduce high blood pressure.

If Microzide controls your high blood pressure without bothersome side effects, you might take it indefinitely. But Microzide can be prescribed for short-term use as well, such as to eliminate fluid buildup caused by medical disorders. Ask your doctor if you must keep taking Microzide or if you will be able to stop at some point, but don't stop taking it without talking to your doctor first.
