What is Microzide?

Microzide (hydrochlorothiazide) is a diuretic, sometimes called a water pill. It helps the body rid itself of excess fluid. Reducing the volume of fluid in your bloodstream can lower blood pressure, so your doctor might prescribe Microzide if you have high blood pressure (hypertension). Your doctor might also give you Microzide to treat fluid retention, which is common in heart disease and some other disorders.
