What is oretic?

Oretic is a prescription diuretic medication (a water pill) that can help to eliminate extra fluid in your body through your urine. This medication can treat blood pressure problems, fluid retention in people with congestive heart failure, fluid retention caused by taking estrogen or steroid medication, cirrhosis of the liver, kidney disorders, and any other illnesses that are caused by retaining excess fluids. It works by keeping your body from absorbing too much salt, which causes the build-up of fluids in your body. Oretic or hydrochlorothiazide are the generic names for this drug. The brand names include Hydrodiuril and Microzide.
