What is metolazone?

Dr. Darria Long Gillespie, MD
Emergency Medicine
Metolazone (Zaroxolyn) inhibits sodium reabsorption in a different part of the kidney than loop diuretics. Metolazone plus a loop diuretic work together to remove salt and fluids from your body. Metolazone is sometimes added to loop diuretics in people with severe heart failure who continue to have problems with fluid overload.
