Aldactone (spironolactone) can cause a number of side effects. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these symptoms: changes in heartbeat (particularly slow, fast or uneven beats); decreased urination; difficulty breathing or swallowing; extreme tiredness, fainting, lack of energy; muscle weakness or pain; leg cramps; numbness or tingling in the hands or feet; confusion or trembling; pain in the upper right part of the stomach accompanied by nausea, stomach pain, darkened urine and clay-colored bowel movements; jaundice; appetite loss; and a low fever. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms persist or become severe: deepening of voice; diarrhea; difficulty maintaining an erection; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; enlarged or painful breasts in men or women; headaches; hair loss, or increased hair growth on odd parts of the body; irregular menstrual periods; restlessness; stomach pain or cramps; thirst; tiredness; unsteadiness; vaginal bleeding in postmenopausal women; rash; or vomiting. If you experience any signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, itchy rash, difficulty breathing and a swollen throat, face or mouth, get emergency medical attention.
