Side effects of amiloride may include an allergic reaction and the symptoms include hives; swelling of the tongue, lips, throat or face and breathing difficulties. Immediate medical attention is required. Other serious side effects include:

  • rapid, slow or uneven heartbeat
  • lethargy
  • shallow breathing
  • lightheadedness
  • numbness
  • restlessness
  • tingling sensation
  • dry mouth
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • increased thirst
  • confusion
  • muscle weakness
  • muscle pain
  • tremors
  • stomach pain
  • loss of appetite
  • fever
  • dark urine
  • less frequent urinating
  • no urinating
  • clay-colored bowel movements
  • yellowing of the eyes or skin

Other side effects that are not as serious include gas, headache and skin rash.
