Who should take spironolactone (Aldactone)?

Spironolactone (Aldactone) is used to diagnose and treat several conditions. Spironolactone may be prescribed for adults with high blood pressure. It may also be used to treat adults with edema (swelling caused by fluid retention), which may be related to a variety of conditions, including cirrhosis (a liver disorder), nephrotic syndrome (a kidney disorder), or congestive heart failure. Spironolactone may also be used to diagnose and treat adults with a condition that occurs when there is too much of a hormone called aldosterone in the body. This medication may also be used to treat other conditions, so talk to your doctor to determine whether spironolactone is appropriate for you.
