Should I change my diet if I take amiloride-hydrochlorothiazide?

Follow your doctor's advice on eating a low-salt or low-sodium diet while taking amiloride-hydrochlorothiazide. This combination helps the potassium blood level to stay steady. The amiloride reverses some of the increased excretion of potassium caused by the hydrochlorothiazide. Avoid salt substitutes that contain potassium.
