Aldactone (spironolactone) is used to treat hyperaldosteronism, a condition in which the adrenal glands produce too much of the hormone aldosterone, which can lower potassium levels in the blood and lead to health problems. Aldactone is an aldosterone receptor antagonist. This means that it blocks the action of aldosterone, bringing the levels of aldosterone in the body into more normal ranges.
