How does Aldactone treat high blood pressure (hypertension)?

Aldactone (spironolactone) treats high blood pressure by helping your body excrete more fluid and salt. By lowering the amount of fluid in your body, Aldactone lowers the total volume of your blood, which in turn lowers your blood pressure. When used to lower blood pressure, Aldactone is usually combined with other drugs that increase fluid excretion.
