Taking Oretic (hydrochlorothiazide) can reduce the levels of potassium within your body. Your doctor may periodically check your potassium levels while you are taking this medicine. If your potassium levels become too low, your doctor may recommend that you take a potassium supplement. Oretic is also shown to pass into breast milk, so if you are breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking it. Oretic also can make you sensitive to sunlight, so you may need to avoid too much sun exposure.
