How do other illnesses affect refractory ulcers?

Other diseases may be the cause of refractory ulcers. In some cases, an ulcer fails to heal because it is not caused by the typical H. pylori bacteria but instead by a more severe disorder. Stomach cancer, for instance, can cause refractory ulcers. Additionally, refractory ulcers affect other illnesses. People who have had ulcers caused by H. pylori are more likely to develop stomach cancer than those who have not.
