How difficult is it to detect colon polyps?

The sigmoid colon, which is located on the left side of the abdomen and is attached to the rectum, can be a difficult area in which to detect polyps, particularly small, flat polyps. This part of the colon tends to be thicker and more tortuous than the remainder of the colon. With a good prep and adequate visualization of the colon, cancer is detected almost 100% of the time.
