If I have EPI, how can I give my body more fuel?

If you have exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) you can give your body more fuel by eating more food, especially high fat foods with lots of energy. Eating a lot of food can be hard work; eating more frequently throughout the day might help. Try eating smaller meals and having lots of snacks, or taking nutritional supplements, like energy shakes or energy bars. Your dietitian can help you choose the right foods for you. Eating more means there’s more food for your enzymes to break down. You can see how much energy foods have by looking at calories. More calories equals more fuel. Eating more calories doesn’t mean you can’t eat healthy food. It’s best not to eat junk food too often. Eating extra food means you’ll have to look after your teeth carefully.
