Can gallbladder disease run in families?

Some people do seem to be genetically predisposed to developing gallbladder disease. Often, people have family histories in which multiple relatives had to have their gallbladders removed. Certain genetic diseases, including sickle cell disease and conditions that cause problems with normal metabolism also raise your risk for gallbladder problems.
