Can dyspepsia be prevented?

Because dyspepsia is not a single condition but rather a collection of symptoms that can be caused for a number of different reasons, there is no single way to prevent it. Certain lifestyle choices - such as a healthy diet, plenty of exercise, and being careful with medications - can greatly reduce the chances of developing dyspepsia. Drugs that limit stomach acid production can be useful in preventing dyspepsia symptoms in some patients. In the case of dyspepsia caused by another condition such as gallstones, ulcers, or stomach cancer, there are ways to reduce your chances of getting these disorders, but is no certain way to prevent them. This also holds true for functional dyspepsia, which usually strikes with no visible cause.
