What are the complications of obstetric fistula if untreated?

Obstetric fistula, if left untreated, can cause very serious complications. If a person does not get the proper treatment for an obstetric fistula, the complications can greatly diminish quality of living. The condition may prevent someone from social contact due to lack of bowel control. Untreated obstetric fistulas can worsen, causing infection, ulcers, kidney disease, and even death. It's also possible to have nerve damage to the legs, causing problems with walking.
